Helga Kleppe Holthe was born in Haugesund, Norway in 1979 and moved to Australia in 2007.
She has had an interest in art from a very young age and on arriving in Perth, Helga went about pursuing her ultimate love of art through a visual and contemporary art course.
A one time nurse, Helga's long time passion came to fruition once she started to study art. Whilst she has an interest in all art forms, she also has strong leanings toward writing poems and short stories and would like to combine more art and poetry in the future.
She has a love of many different types of art, she follows with admiration Kiki Smith and Frida Kahlo, due to the brave and generous nature of their work, as well as their strong and honest links to spirituality, mortality and history.
Helga's inspiration is sourced from many things in nature and life. She is interested in moods, vibrations and sensations and how this is reflected in art. Differences in light and shade, feelings and atmosphere inspire various pieces of her art.
The name Swallows and Ladybirds came about from a dream that was both an intense and comforting experience. Her artistic endeavours are guided by feelings and energetic emotions and as such it seemed apt for this to also provide a title for her work.
